The rate at which Nigerians are committing suicide is becoming quite alarming, especially those who choose the option of jumping into the lagoon and drowning.

In the past two weeks, there have been more than three people who have been rescued by the police in the state while attempting to commit suicide while the unlucky ones like a medical doctor, Allwell Orji, was not that lucky when he took that fatal plunge into the lagoon on Sunday, March 19, 2017.
Another woman was rescued the next day by local fishermen at the Maza-Maza Bridge in the Mile 2 area of the state after she jumped into the river while on Friday, March 23, 2017, a woman identified as Taiwo Titilayo Momoh was rescued by the Lagos State Police Command during an attempt to jump into the lagoon from Third Mainland Bridge.
According to a journalist, Malik Nasir, on Sunday, March 26, 2017, another man was also rescued by the police while trying to jump into the lagoon in another suicide attempt.
Nasir who posted the incident on his Facebook page said the man had walked casually on the bridge and was just about jumping off when a police patrol team swiftly rescued him and saved him from killing himself.
There was another twist to the new development as Nasir said that an Ifa Priest has attributed the incessant suicides to the fact that the lagoon is angry and a sacrifice is required to appease it.
This is what Nasir wrote:
"Yet another suicide attempt at the Lagos lagoon today. He was rescued before he could take the plunge. An Ifa Priest has said in a national daily that the Lagoon is Angry. How do we appease the Lagoon please?"

Interpol Announce 'Turn On The Bright Lights' Show

'Turn On The Bright Lights'

Interpol are set to re-visit 'Turn On The Bright Lights' with a series of special UK shows.
The New Yorkers released their debut album in 2002, when the indie landscape tended to be dominated by torn jeans, Converse trainers, and spiky guitar lines.
Adding a sense of style and sophistication, the band's lush yet introverted songwriting was a key component of the post-punk resurgence.
Toasting the 15th anniversary of their debut, Interpol are set to re-visit 'Turn On The Bright Lights' at a flurry of European dates this summer.
Playing a series of shows on the continent, Interpol will play London's Alexandra Palace on September 1st, before hitting Manchester's Albert Hall on September 3rd.

A 100 level student of the University of Lagos identified as Temitope Omolara died on Thursday, March 23rd after she reportedly went out with an unidentified man.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the deceased was said to have returned to the campus after the outing feeling sick, with her friends reporting that she was seen vomiting, including blood on a number of occasions.

Temitope was said to have finally died at an undisclosed hospital outside the campus on Thursday. Her remains were buried on Friday, March 25th.

Details of the circumstances leading to her death still remain fuzzy. The university authority, on Sundayevening, reacted to a tweet, which alleged that the student had died at the university’s medical centre.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Toyin Adebule, also discredited claims in the tweet that the school had ejected some students from their halls of residence in connection with the incident.

"Information available so far indicates that she called someone (some say, relations, others say male) to come and pick her from the hall. Later information filtered into the hall that she had died" the statement reads.

"I wish to state that the story about the Medical Centre is false. Definitely, the incident did not happen in the medical centre contrary to the claim in the Twitter massage. Lastly, there is no formal report from the hall to the DSA on the incident. Therefore, no action could have been taken to eject the bona fide student as claimed. Let me state categorically here that no student has been ejected from the hall over this matter. At this moment our thoughts are with the family."
